You should also cover the entire floor as well. You never know where small splashes of paint may land and are better safe than sorry later.

Drywall Repair

If there is any décor on the walls of the room you are painting, it obviously needs to be removed before you can paint. Once it is all removed, you need to fill in any holes that are in places that you won’t be hanging the artwork or other wall hangings again. This can be done easily with some painter’s putty. Once the putty has completely dried, you may want to sand it down a bit with a sheet of sand paper. This will make it blend in with the texture of your wall so it is discreet.

Gather Painting Supplies

You may not realize how many supplies you are going to need to paint the walls of your home. To paint your home, you need to have rollers, painter’s tape, brushes, roller covers, paint tray and gloves. If you have high ceilings in your home, you may want to invest in a high quality roller extension that makes it easier to reach high places. Don’t forget to also grab the paint can opener and some stir sticks as well.

Taping Walls & Ceiling for Painting

Before you start painting, you need to tape off the areas that you don’t want painted. This will include the baseboards and trim, as well as any lighting on the walls like sconces. Taping may seem tedious, but it is extremely important if you are looking to get clean crisp lines.
